The driver killed a 17-year-old motorcyclist and injured his son.

A 44-year-old driver was sentenced to 20 months in prison and five years of driving ban for killing a 17-year-old motorcyclist and seriously injuring his own son during a traffic accident on May 1, 2022, on a narrow forest road between Útěchov and Adamov. The driver, who was operating a Land Rover with more than a year of overdue technical inspections, was traveling at excessive speed and swerved onto the shoulder while avoiding oncoming traffic, causing the vehicle to lose control and strike the motorcyclist. The victim died later the same day from his injuries, while the driver’s son sustained serious injuries. During his appeal, the driver claimed he had hit a deep, unmarked hole in the road, blaming the road manager for the accident. However, the court rejected this claim, stating that photos and video evidence showed no such hole existed. The judges emphasized that the road was narrow and marked as a forest path, requiring careful driving, and criticized the driver’s argument as illogical and legally unsound.
