The study aimed to compare different silvicultural methods, including traditional clear-cutting, smaller patch clear-cutting, and heavy thinning, against untouched forest areas. Researchers found that mountain ash trees regenerated most effectively on fully clear-cut sites, while smaller clearings led to dominance by common understory species like acacia. Despite these findings, the experiment faded into obscurity due to lack of follow-up funding and attention. Recently, researchers have re-examined the results, highlighting their relevance to ongoing debates about balancing conservation efforts with sustainable forestry practices.
