Returning Singaporean students can apply to join local schools from July 8

Starting from July 8, Singaporean students who have been living abroad and are planning to return to Singapore can begin applying for admission into local secondary schools, junior colleges, or the Millennia Institute (MI) for the 2027 academic year. The application process involves sitting for centralised tests known as the School Placement Exercise for Returning Singaporeans (SPERS). Returning Singaporeans who plan to arrive in the country by September 2026 are encouraged to apply for the SPERS-Sec rather than the SPE. This option ensures they can begin their schooling in January 2027, aligning with their peers. Alternatively, students can also explore the Assured School Placement service, which facilitates enrollment in nearby primary or secondary schools without requiring centralised testing. In this case, the prospective school might conduct its own assessments and interviews to determine the most suitable level and class for the student.
