The revitalization of the athletics stadium in Koper has entered its most critical phase, according to officials from the city council. The project, which aims to significantly improve training conditions and competition facilities, is set to conclude by the end of the year. The first phase of renovation was completed earlier this month, during which the city carried out a stabilization embankment that accelerated the consolidation of the ground. This initial step laid the foundation for the upcoming work, which will focus on constructing a new athletic track, a natural grass surface, and installing new sports equipment tailored for athletes. The total value of the works, including taxes, amounts to 1,742,551.52 euros. In addition, the city successfully secured 500,000 euros in non-repayable funds from the Ministry of Economy, Tourism, and Sports as part of a public funding program. Despite the ongoing construction, the stadium will remain closed throughout the duration of the works, although the World Cup of climbing is scheduled to take place in September without disruption. Once completed, the renovated facility is expected to offer substantially better conditions for both training and competitive events. In parallel, another major infrastructure project is underway in the town of Nova Gorica, where the reconstruction of Jakče and Ragovska streets is progressing. The mayor of Nova Gorica, Gregor Macedoni, and the director of the company KOP Brežice, Dejan Bibič, signed a contract today for the first phase of the road reconstruction and renewal. This initiative continues the systematic improvement of the local road network and municipal utilities, aiming to enhance traffic safety and raise the quality of life for residents. The project covers the complete reconstruction of Jakče and Ragovska streets from Kandijska to Ločna. In the first phase, approximately 500 meters of the section between the roundabout on Kandijska Street and the access point near building number 21 on Ragovska Street will be renovated. The plan includes comprehensive redesigning of traffic surfaces, improving pedestrian and cyclist areas, and renewing all existing junctions and bus stops. “This project marks the continuation of implementing development plans related to the organization of traffic and utility infrastructure. Activities within the renewal of Jakče and Ragovska streets will begin shortly, with the aim of completing the main parts affecting traffic flows after the summer holidays. This way, we will minimize the impact on traffic, while also establishing temporary two-way traffic arrangements on Trdina or Musičeva Street near Grund Primary School during the project period. As part of the restructuring, we will comprehensively renovate the municipal infrastructure and street lighting, ensuring that the area around Ragovska and Jakče Streets is properly structured, thus eliminating the need for additional interventions in the future. Moreover, this project will significantly improve safety for all participants in traffic,” stated Mayor Gregor Macedoni upon signing the agreement. A significant portion of the investment involves extensive municipal and infrastructure improvements, including the construction of a new stormwater and sewage system, as well as the modernization of street lighting. The contractor for these works is the company KOP Brežice, d.d., which was selected as the most favorable bidder. The total value of the investment, including VAT, is 1,711,820.99 euros. The city also managed to secure co-financing from the mechanism of Comprehensive Territorial Investments, amounting to 832,000 euros. “As the executing entity, we will strive to carry out all activities within the agreed timeframe and in close collaboration with the municipality, with the goal of minimizing the impact of the renovation on the local community,” emphasized Dejan Bibič, director of KOP Brežice, upon signing the agreement. The start of the works is planned for the first half of July, with the implementation period lasting twelve months from the date the executor begins working. In the coming period, the municipality of Nova Gorica also announced the planning of the second and third phases of the renewal, which will cover the area up to the connection with Levice Road. The municipality of Nova Gorica will continuously inform the public about the progress of the works and any temporary traffic arrangements. It expresses gratitude to citizens for their understanding during the execution of the investment.
