Reform partnership: Governor Wallner wants to clarify financial issues over the summer

Austrian Federal Governor Markus Wallner of Vorarlberg has called for accelerated progress in resolving financial issues within the country's reform partnership framework, emphasizing the need to address these matters before the summer break. Speaking during an interview with Ö1’s “Mittagsjournal” on Tuesday, Wallner stated that there was still a long road ahead and urged swift action on the financial assessment process. He specifically mentioned that Finance Minister Markus Marterbauer or his experts should be brought into discussions soon to ensure that financial questions related to the reform partnership would be resolved by summer. Wallner highlighted areas where responsibilities between federal and regional authorities could shift, particularly in energy, education, and healthcare. The current chairman of the Conference of State Governors emphasized that the most pressing financial concerns revolved around education, where personnel from educational directorates would be consolidated. He pointed out that two essential components were still missing in this regard. When comparing the reform partnership to a hike, he suggested they had progressed no more than one-third of the journey thus far.
