The owners of Trattoria Mio Nonno, who opened their doors in September 2024, described the incident as deeply distressing. They highlighted that the restaurant was dedicated to their late grandfather, after whom it is named, and emphasized the values of honesty, work, and respect towards others that guided them in creating this space. In a heartfelt message shared on social media, they stated that the actions of certain individuals cast a shadow over everything they had built together with their team over the years. The incident reportedly began when a man known as Aleksandr Drabinca, a Slovenian mixed martial arts fighter better known by his nickname "Rus," approached four other men and struck one of them. This led to an intense altercation, during which gunfire was heard. At the time of the incident, the restaurant was full, with several employees present. The owners did not wish to speak publicly about the matter but confirmed that it was an isolated case and that they had no connection to those involved. Following the shooting, the confrontation continued, with objects being thrown and loud noises heard around the terrace.

Drabinca later revealed on social media that he sustained injuries from two bullets, both of which missed critical areas. One bullet passed through fatty tissue without causing significant damage beyond aesthetic concerns, while the second grazed his muscle and exited through his leg without major harm, despite the potential for more severe injuries such as damage to muscles, knees, bones, or arteries. He attributed his avoidance of serious injury to the small caliber of the bullets and divine protection. Despite the ongoing investigation, authorities have not released new information regarding the incident, stating that the probe is still active and that no one involved has been detained as of now.
