Protest singer Metin Turan, a prominent figure in Turkey's left-wing music scene, was released from prison after serving 25 years behind bars. The announcement came from his lawyer, İsmail Topkaya, who shared the news on social media, stating that Turan, described as a "revolutionary prisoner with his voice and words," had finally walked free. Turan had been incarcerated since the 1990s, initially detained for political activities linked to his role in leftist protest groups. His release followed legal proceedings initiated due to deteriorating health conditions, which were formally documented by the Forensic Medicine Institute. Turan's journey through the Turkish justice system began in the late 1990s, during a period marked by heightened political tensions and crackdowns on dissenting voices. Additional recognition came in the form of honorable mentions in the Gülten Akın Letter Award in 2021 and the Sait Faik Short Story Competition in 2022. Among these are children's books such as "Zozi-Dodi ile Arkadaşlarının Maceraları" and "Keşfetmenin Güzelliği," published in 2018. In the following years, he authored "Her İnsan Bir Zamandır" (2019), "Ama Bir Gün Bir Şey Olur" (2020), "Başka Türlüsü" (2021), and "Parçalanmayı Bekleyen" (2022). These works reflect his evolving perspective shaped by personal experience and the broader socio-political landscape of Turkey. Throughout his career, Turan has maintained a presence in both music and literature, often addressing themes of freedom, resistance, and human dignity.
