A green light was given for the reconstruction and expansion of the kindergarten in Komenda, according to local media reports. The decision came during a recent meeting of the municipal council, which debated several proposals related to both the renovation of the cemetery and the redevelopment of the kindergarten. The council approved the continuation of the project for the kindergarten, while rejecting the documents related to the expansion of the cemetery. The new kindergarten will consist of sixteen rooms and is expected to open in September 2028. The discussion focused primarily on the cost of the cemetery expansion project, which initially was estimated at 1.9 million euros but has since risen to three million euros. This increase is attributed mainly to higher costs associated with landscape works and the requirements set by the Cultural Heritage Protection Agency of Slovenia. Additionally, rising prices for construction materials and services have contributed to the increased budget. The initial investment plan, based on an idea for a park-style cemetery, had been submitted in 2024 and outlined plans for improving public space quality, increasing climate resilience, and developing green infrastructure in Komenda. However, the updated proposal shows a reduction in the projected value of the kindergarten reconstruction from 12 to 9.2 million euros. During the debate over the cemetery expansion, council members expressed concerns regarding the demands made by the Cultural Heritage Protection Agency. Some suggested that funding could potentially come from this source. Mayor Jurij Kern explained that the municipality had minimized these requests to a minimum. He emphasized that the three million euro figure includes funds intended for land purchases and archaeological excavations, noting that the final amount will depend on the tender process. Despite the approval, there were mixed opinions among the ten present council members, with four voting in favor and six against, indicating skepticism about the high valuation of the investment. The proposed kindergarten, designed to accommodate around 2,800 square meters of internal floor space and additional outdoor areas, aims to provide modern, sustainable, and energy-efficient facilities. Construction is planned to begin in the current autumn and should conclude by September 2028. The municipality expects to secure partial financing from the Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth, as well as the Eco Fund, totaling approximately two million eight hundred thousand euros. In its assessment of the project, the council raised doubts about its feasibility. One member suggested that the municipality might consider purchasing additional land for the kindergarten to allow for school expansion. The mayor responded that additional building plots are not necessary for the kindergarten's construction and reminded the council of the importance of adhering to the approved plans.
