Alleged feminicide of Natalia Villalba used a fake passport to escape justice

The ongoing legal process against British citizen Matthew Ashley Foster-Smith, accused by Colombia's Attorney General's Office of the femicide of Natalia Villalba in Bogotá, has uncovered new evidence. After his arrest in Ecuador through a coordinated operation between Colombian and international authorities, it was revealed that he used false identities to evade detection during his escape. The names registered on his passport did not match those used to register on Airbnb during his stay in Colombia. Authorities are investigating these discrepancies. Additionally, Foster-Smith allegedly attempted to deceive the financial platform Wise by claiming he had been kidnapped, beaten, and drugged in Colombia, though these claims were later found to be false. The property owner where he stayed verified his identity using UK public records and confirmed he was known as Matthew Ashley Foster-Smith. He reportedly faced previous legal proceedings for alleged harassment and stalking of ex-partners. Foster-Smith was arrested at Quito's International Airport on June 26 while attempting to board a flight to London, thanks to an arrest warrant issued by a Bogotá prosecutor, an Interpol red notice,

Bogota acknowledges the risk of femicide, but lacks the capacity to protect

The article discusses the alarming rise in femicides in Bogotá, highlighting that by early 2026, 129 criminal incidents linked to femicide were documented, including 15 completed cases and 114 attempted ones. It emphasizes that the number of women identified as being at extreme risk of murder has reached 546, with detailed records and active alerts in the system. He was processed by immigration officials and agents from the CTI (Technical Criminal Investigation Unit) of the Attorney General’s Office and will soon appear before a judge to legitimize his detention. The prosecution has gathered evidence linking Foster to the time of death, including security camera footage, witness testimony, and documents.
