28 people tracked down and arrested in connection with child pornography via cryptocurrency

In an international operation against child sexual abuse, 28 suspects were arrested across seven countries, including Slovenia, using blockchain tracking of the cryptocurrency Monero. The operation, led by Norway’s National Criminal Investigation Service (Kripos), utilized a specialized method developed in 2025 to trace payments made through Monero, which is known for its high level of anonymity. Suspects allegedly paid for access to illegal content on dark web forums, with some using AI to create such material. During raids, over 460 items were seized, including electronic devices, data storage devices, cryptocurrencies, drugs, and doping substances. Three children were protected during searches in Norway. Europol noted that one suspect used artificial intelligence to generate illegal content, and some victims were identified as family members of the accused.
