Hrvatska je u subotu i nedjelju proglašena kao zemlja koja vodi dvije bitke – jednu protiv prirodne katastrofe i drugu protiv požara koji su se proširili u različitim dijelovima kraja. Snažno nevrijeme, s obilnim kišama, grmljavinom i lokalnom tučom, doprinijelo je poplavama na nekim područjima, dok su na drugim dijelovima zemlje, posebno u Dalmaciji, požari postali ozbiljan problem. Nevrijeme je zahvatilo dijelove Dalmacije, a najteže je bilo na području između Dugopolja i Klisa. Nagla promjena vremena također je donijela osvježenje – na nekim lokacijama temperatura je pala za do 18 stupnjeva, čime je prekinut jedan od najekstremnijih toplinskih dana zabilježenih u Dalmaciji. Gradonačelnik Sinja, Miro Bulj, je otkrio da je u okolici Sinja pala jaka tuča, a temperatura je u samo pet minuta pala s 40 na 23 Celzijevih stupnjeva.
Požari su se razvili u više lokacija, uključujući otok Čiova, Orebić i Sućurc. Požar na Čiovu bio je blizu kuća, ali stanovnici i imovina nisu bile ugrožene. Vatrogasci iz Trogira, Kastela, Sinja, Solina, Klisa, Splita, Slatina i Omiša su bili angažirani u gašenju požara. Dva od četiri angažirana kanadera su upotrebljena za gašenje požara na Čiovu, dok su druga dva upućena na gašenje požara kod Orebića. Požar iznad Orebića je izbio nakon što je tijekom poslijepodneva izbio požar na području Čiova, a na teren su upućene vatrogasne snage koje rade na njegovo gašenje. U Portugalu su takoder izbili veliki požari, a u gašenju su učestvovali više od 1.200 vatrogasaca. Požar, koji je izbio u četvrtak u općini Vouzela, u okrugu Viseu, zahvatio je najmanje 13 hiljada hektara. U gašenju su učestvovala 400 vatrogasnih vozila, dva kanadera, četiri helikoptera i ukupno 1.200 vatrogasaca. Portugal je aktivirao evropski mehanizam civilne zaštite kako bi osigurao dodatnu pomoć, a Španija je poslala vojni kontingent od oko stotinu pripadnika i jedan kanader. U nedjelju su šest regija u centralnom i južnom dijelu zemlje i dalje bila pod crvenim upozorenjem zbog visokih temperatura koje bi mogle premašiti 40 stepeni Celzijusa. Portugal se svake godine suočava s velikim šumskim požarima, a među najtragičnijima bili su oni iz 2017. godine, u kojima je život izgubilo više od stotinu ljudi. Najzapadnija evropska država prošle godine zabilježila je svoje najtoplije ljeto od 1931. godine. U subotu navečer izbio je i novi požar u teško pristupačnom području Pirineja, koji je već zahvatio oko hiljadu hektara. Gašenje dodatno otežavaju nepovoljni vremenski uslovi – najavljeni su vjetrovi brzine do 50 kilometara na sat, izuzetno niska vlažnost zraka i temperature koje bi ponovo mogle dostići 38 stepeni Celzijusa.
