COIn Segovia, Antioquia, the formalization of traditional mining operations is progressing as a strategy to improve environmental, productive, and social conditions within an industry deeply rooted in the region. Recently, Aris Mining reached an agreement with the Matuna Project (formerly La Rubiela), enabling the formalization of 450 traditional miners after nearly two years of collaboration among various stakeholders. This process aims to transition traditional mining toward more legal, secure, and productive frameworks. Formalization strengthens workers' capabilities, improves working conditions, and promotes sustainable relationships with local territories. Beyond worker formalization, this approach has also enabled regenerative mining initiatives led by miners and supported by Aris Mining and Corantioquia. These efforts focus on environmental restoration and recovery, including reducing mercury usage by 162 tons through formalized processes. Over 3,000 formalized miners have received training in health, safety, environment, and technical processes.
