Political shakeup in BARMM continues ahead of Sept. 14 polls

Political realignments are intensifying in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) as more leaders leave the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP) to join the newly formed Bangsamoro Federalist Party (BFP). Maguindanao del Sur Representative Esmael 'Toto' Mangudadatu recently switched allegiance, taking his oath as a BFP member. He cited the party's development-focused approach and commitment to public welfare as reasons for his decision. This follows the departure of another UBJP member, Kellie Antao, who also joined the BFP. Former UBJP leader and current BFP President Tomanda Antok welcomed Mangudadatu and emphasized the party's goal of inclusive governance. Meanwhile, BARMM Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua, running independently, has appointed Antao as administrator of the region's Special Geographic Area.
