The police were informed yesterday evening about water contamination and fish deaths in the area of Rač, near Maribor. They are conducting investigations to determine where the substance was released and whether any criminal activity related to environmental damage occurred. Firefighters and other services were present at the scene attempting to contain the spread of the substance and minimize damage. According to the Public Protection Administration, there was minor contamination from fertilizer in one of the tributaries of the Požeg reservoir in the municipality of Rače-Fram. Volunteer fire departments have been working on-site to pump out water and improve conditions in fish ponds by adding oxygen, aiming to reduce the impact of the pollution.
