The summer season begins: the island of Maribor with news and hundreds of events

The Maribor Island swimming pool, managed by Šport Maribor under the JHMB Group, will open its doors on Saturday, June 20, 2026, ahead of the summer season. Recent maintenance work and infrastructure improvements have been carried out at the site. Upcoming upgrades include a heated children’s pool, new showers and drinking fountains, and disinfection basins. The facility will also offer over 650 events during the summer months, including creative workshops, sports activities, silent discos, water aerobics, meditation sessions, storytelling hours, family games, swimming lessons, slackline and绳索

The summer season is officially underway as the Maribor Island, known locally as "Mariborski otok," opens its doors to visitors this Saturday, June 20, 2026. The island's swimming complex, managed by the Sports Maribor company within the JHMB Group, has been preparing extensively for the start of the bathing season, which coincides with the anticipated heatwave. Over the past weeks, regular maintenance work and several infrastructure improvements have taken place on the site, ensuring that visitors will experience enhanced comfort and facilities during their visit.

Among the new features set to delight visitors are the heated children’s pool, new showers and drinking fountains, and disinfection pools. These upgrades aim to improve the overall visitor experience and provide greater convenience for all age groups. Additionally, the facility will offer a wide range of activities throughout the summer months, including creative workshops, sports events, tournaments, mini silent discos, water aerobics, relaxation sessions, meditation classes, fairy tale readings, mini Olympics, social games, swimming lessons, slackline challenges, and rope pulling competitions. The program is designed to cater to children, youth, families, and older adults alike, offering something for everyone.

To ensure accessibility, parking will be available at two locations: a gravel lot near the entrance to the swimming complex and an additional one in Koblarjev Zaliv. Visitors can also reach the island via the city bus route G5 Rotovž. However, due to ongoing final preparations, the island will not be open to pedestrians on Saturday, June 18, and Sunday, June 19, in the evening hours. During the bathing season, access for walkers will be available in the morning hours, specifically between 6 and 9 am daily.

The management team at Sports Maribor invites visitors to enjoy the summer days in the heart of nature, taking advantage of the refreshing waters and the variety of events offered on Maribor Island. They also inform that the Pristan Swimming Complex will remain open until Friday, June 26, 2026.

As part of the ongoing development, the management has announced that prices for entry tickets will increase slightly. This decision follows the approval by the City Council of Maribor, citing higher operational costs, safety measures, and rising expenses for energy, materials, and external services. The full-day ticket for adults will now cost 7 euros, an increase of half a euro compared to last year. Similarly, tickets for young people under 15 years old, students, disabled individuals, and retirees over 60 will see the same price hike. Weekly and monthly passes will also be more expensive, while the prices for using the sunbeds and umbrellas will remain unchanged. On weekends and holidays, the prices will be even higher, with the full-day adult ticket reaching 9 euros. Monthly passes will see an increase of 10 euros.

Visitors can look forward to improved parking options and continued efforts to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment. With these enhancements and a diverse array of activities, the Maribor Island promises to be a popular destination for locals and tourists alike during the upcoming summer season.
