In 2024, foreign-controlled companies accounted for 3.7% of all observed companies in Slovenia but contributed 27.4% of total added value and employed 27.1% of all employees. These companies were economically significant, particularly those under the control of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. There were 7,709 foreign-owned domestic companies operating in Slovenia out of a total of 208,078 active companies. Despite their relatively small number, these firms played a substantial role in Slovenia’s economy by contributing over a quarter of the country's added value, employment, and sales revenue. The majority of these foreign-owned companies were controlled by European countries, with nearly half under the control of Serbia, Italy, Austria, Croatia, Russia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Industrial enterprises represented the largest share of added value and investments among foreign-controlled companies.
