Following the New Narrow Road on Magistrate Street

The recent redesign of Magistrska Street in Šiški, Ljubljana, has sparked dissatisfaction among nearby residents due to new road markings that prioritize cyclists. The changes were made as part of an infrastructure upgrade around the new Athletic Center in Šiški. Residents complain that the newly painted bike lanes are wider than usual, making the car lane narrower and causing traffic congestion. They report situations where cars have to move into bike lanes while waiting at red lights, creating conflicts with cyclists. Cyclists now face potential dangers as they must weave between vehicles if a car is already using the bike lane. The local municipality responded by stating that the road layout complies with current traffic regulations and standards, aiming to improve safety through reduced speeds. They emphasized that the design was influenced by spatial constraints and is considered best practice in urban environments. Additionally, they noted that the redesign does not include modifications to the level railway crossing, which is handled separately.

Part of the Smartina underpass collapsed on the pavement

A section of a railway structure collapsed onto the sidewalk in Šmartinski podvoz in Ljubljana. The incident occurred when a large metal part of the overhead railway construction fell onto the pedestrian path and bike lane. Fortunately, no one was injured at the time, but residents have been advised to be cautious. The local municipality is responsible for the sidewalks and bike lanes, while the state-owned railway infrastructure agency oversees the overhead structure. Both entities were contacted for comments on whether they were aware of the incident, if any measures had been taken, and what caused the structural failure. The municipality stated that the area underwent significant renovations in 2015, including widening sidewalks and improving bike lanes. Further plans include expanding the podvoz to accommodate four traffic lanes with separate areas for cyclists and pedestrians, though the timeline remains unclear.

Bias read (Center): The article presents a factual account of an infrastructure incident involving municipal and national authorities. It does not exhibit clear ideological bias, as it reports on the event neutrally, mentions both responsible parties, and includes quotes from the municipality without overtly favoring a
