Dva pljačkaša su 1999. godine na brdu Mittelberg uz pomoć detektora metala i pijuka otkrila brončani disk u blizini Nebra u Njemačkoj. Disk je ukrašen zlatnim prikazima Mjeseca i zvijezda, a nakon što su bili uhićeni 2002. godine, predmet je pripisan arheologima. Analiza je pokazala da disk potječe iz razdoblja oko 1600. godine prije Krista i pripada unjetićkoj kulturi. Arheolog Harald Meller i njegovi suradnici su zaključili da je disk najstariji precizan prikaz neba u povijesti čovječanstva, s različitim fazama izrade i dodataka tokom vremena. Disk je uvršten u UNESCO-ov registar „Pamćenje svijeta“ i sadrži detalje koji sugeriraju znanstveno razumijevanje nebeskog svoda, uključujući Plejadu i simbole poput solarnog broda boga Ra.
