Over 2,700 Osun residents access free healthcare as SROL expands SegunCare to include mental health support
Over 2,700 residents in Osun State, Nigeria, received free healthcare services during the 4th Annual Community Medical Outreach organized by Segilola Resources Operating Limited (SROL). The event took place on August 7th and 8th, 2026, in areas such as Imogbara, Odo-Ijesha, and Iperindo. This outreach included medical consultations, surgical procedures, laboratory tests, eye exams, and health screenings for various conditions like hypertension, diabetes, and HIV. Notably, the program expanded its SegunCare initiative to include more comprehensive mental health support, identifying seven chronic mental health cases and offering counseling, rehabilitation, and education to reduce stigma around mental illness. Since its launch in 2025, SegunCare has provided ongoing care for approximately 279 residents with chronic illnesses, and an additional 50 people were enrolled following this year's outreach.
Osun State, Nigeria, On 7th and 8th August 2026, over 2,700 residents in Imogbara, Odo-Ijesha and Iperindo accessed free healthcare during the 4th Annual Community Medical Outreach by Segilola Resources Operating Limited (SROL). This initiative, known as SegunCare, has been expanded to include more robust mental health support, marking a significant evolution in the company's approach to community well-being. The two-day outreach, held in these three towns, offered a wide range of medical services. Qualified doctors conducted 2,762 consultations, while 81 individuals were scheduled for general and specialist surgical procedures. Laboratory investigations reached 1,860 cases, and 563 eye examinations were performed, including 21 eye surgeries and the distribution of 174 free prescription reading glasses. Residents also underwent screenings for hypertension, diabetes, HIV, Hepatitis B and C, tuberculosis, and other health conditions. Health education and wellness sessions were integral to the event, alongside 7 chronic mental health issues identified and addressed through rehabilitation and counselling. In addition, 50 new residents were enrolled into SegunCare, bringing the total number of beneficiaries under the program to approximately 279. Since its launch in 2025, SegunCare has provided monthly medication, routine monitoring, and long-term disease management for these individuals. This year’s outreach represents a key milestone, as the program now integrates more comprehensive mental health support, reflecting a broader commitment to holistic healthcare. Dr Princewill Osuchukwu, Medical Services Manager at SROL, emphasized the importance of accessible healthcare. “Our vision has always been to ensure that quality healthcare is not limited by location or affordability,” he stated. “While the annual outreach provides immediate access to essential medical services, we recognize that lasting health outcomes require sustained care.” Through SegunCare, SROL aims to offer continuous support to residents living with chronic illnesses, particularly by addressing the emotional and psychological aspects of long-term diagnoses. Beneficiaries such as Adeshina Sherifat, who has been receiving treatment through SegunCare since last year, expressed gratitude for the program’s impact. “Before SegunCare, buying my medication every month was very difficult because I couldn’t always afford it,” she explained. “Today, I receive my medication regularly, my health is monitored, and I feel much stronger. Knowing that the support continues even after the outreach has given me confidence and peace of mind.” Hon Soji Gbege, Chairman of the Iperindo Community Development Agreement (CDA) Committee, highlighted the significance of consistent support from SROL. “For many families in our communities, quality healthcare remains expensive and sometimes out of reach,” he noted. “What has mattered most to us is not just what SROL provides during the outreach, but how consistently they have shown up for our communities.” As SROL continues to expand its efforts, the inclusion of mental health support underscores a growing recognition of the interconnectedness of physical and mental well-being. With ongoing initiatives aimed at reducing barriers to healthcare access, the company remains committed to improving the lives of residents in Osun State.
