A new study by the luggage retailer Eminent has identified underappreciated summer destinations around the world, with the Italian region of Puglia ranking first. The research analyzed over 50 lesser-known travel destinations based on their popularity and mentions on social media platforms like Instagram, comparing factors such as number of posts, visitor numbers, average summer temperatures, activity options, and accommodation costs. Puglia, located in southern Italy, boasts over 16.2 million Instagram posts showcasing its picturesque white villages, turquoise sea, and centuries-old architecture. Despite attracting around 6.7 million visitors annually, it remains significantly less crowded than other famous Italian destinations. The study highlights Puglia's favorable price-to-quality ratio, offering 1,536 different attractions and over 830 hotels for a week-long stay in June at an average cost of $639 per night. Other top destinations include Japanese Okinawa, known as Asia's Caribbean for its tropical beaches, and Sardinia in Italy, which offers serene alternatives to more bustling tourist spots.
