Osun poll: Oyebamiji’s running mate unveils 360 grassroots canvassers

In Odo Otin Local Government Area, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, has bolstered his campaign with the formal launch of 360 grassroots canvassers. The initiative, spearheaded by Bello Basheer, was unveiled during a ceremony held in Inisa, Osun State, on Saturday. According to a statement issued by Basheer, the canvassers and coordinators were selected from each of the 15 wards within the local government area, with 20 canvassers and four coordinators assigned per ward. This structure ensures comprehensive coverage across the region, aiming to enhance voter engagement and outreach. Benjamin Adereti, Oyebamiji’s running mate, was represented at the event by Sola Soladoye. During the inauguration, Adereti emphasized the importance of grassroots involvement in securing electoral victory. He assured residents that, should Oyebamiji win the upcoming August 15 governorship election, he would lead an administration focused on inclusivity, sustainability, and improved living conditions for all citizens of Osun State. Adereti praised Basheer’s contribution to the campaign, calling the initiative a strategic platform for strengthening the APC's presence in the local government area. The BABS Canvassers, as the group is named, aim to target undecided voters and first-time voters, groups often overlooked in traditional campaign strategies. Basheer, the convener of the initiative, highlighted the role of the canvassers in bridging the gap between the party and the electorate. He stated that the team would play a crucial part in deepening the APC’s connection with the community and expanding its influence throughout the 15 wards. Basheer also encouraged APC supporters to maintain their loyalty and commitment to the party, asserting that sustained backing would be essential to achieving the campaign’s goals. The election, set for August 15, will see multiple candidates vying for the governorship. The current sitting governor, Ademola Adeleke, is running under the Accord Party. Other notable contenders include Bola Oyebamiji, the former managing director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, and Dr. Najeem Salaam, the former speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, who is campaigning on the platform of the African Democratic Congress. Additionally, candidates from 11 other political parties are also competing for the position. The APC’s strategy reflects broader trends in Nigerian politics, where ground-level engagement is increasingly viewed as vital to winning elections. With over 360 individuals dedicated to canvassing in Odo Otin, the party is investing heavily in direct interaction with voters.
