Óscar Landerretche is imposed on Alejandro Micco and is elected as dean of the FEN of the University of Chile

The Faculty of Economics and Business at the University of Chile (FEN) elected Oscar Landerretche as its new dean for the next four years, defeating Alejandro Micco in both the first and second rounds of voting. Landerretche will replace current Dean Jose De Gregorio, whose term ends on July 6, 2026. In the second round, Landerretche received 54.43% of the weighted votes, while Micco got 45.57%. The election had an 89.47% participation rate among FEN academics. Landerretche has been affiliated with FEN for nearly 19 years, serving as academic director of the Master’s program in Public Policy and as a professor. He previously worked as chairman of Codelco during Michelle Bachelet’s second government but returned to FEN after completing his tenure. Landerretche is a member of the Socialist Party (PS) but has expressed dissenting views within the party, including voting against the first constitutional reform process and casting a null vote in the recent presidential election between Jeannette Jara and Jose Antonio Kast. He has also criticized the government’s proposed mega-reform as a 'tutti frutti' approach.
