Oriire: FG arraigns two Ansaru Commanders, three others over fresh charges of terrorism

The Nigerian Federal Government has arraigned five individuals accused of involvement in the beheading of two teachers kidnapped from a school in Oriire, Oyo State. Among the accused are two alleged commanders of the Ansaru terrorist group, captured by the Department of State Services (DSS) in 2025, and three other defendants described as foot soldiers involved in the attack. Justice Salim Ibrahim set September 24 for the trial of these individuals, who face charges including terrorism, kidnapping, concealment, incitement, and illegal mining. Previously, three other individuals were sentenced to life imprisonment for their role in the same incident. The current defendants admitted to concealing information about the attack and affiliating with Ansaru, but denied physical participation. The DSS plans to appeal the sentencing, arguing for the death penalty.
