ONGC promises ₹36.6 crore aid for cancer treatment equipment in Kakinada Government hospital

ONGC has committed ₹36.6 crore to fund the acquisition of a Linear Accelerator (LINAC) machine for the Government General Hospital (GGH) in Kakinada. The funding comes under the company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives and aims to enhance cancer treatment capabilities in the region. The LINAC machine will be used for radiotherapy, offering advanced treatment options for cancer patients from the Godavari and Visakhapatnam districts. This pledge was announced by Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, who highlighted the significance of this contribution in improving healthcare access for local residents. The initiative includes the construction of an exclusive cancer block within the GGH-Kakinada complex, funded by the Indian Red Cross Society with ₹7 crore. This new facility is designed to provide comprehensive care for cancer patients, including diagnostics, treatment, and follow-up services. In addition to the LINAC machine, the hospital plans to launch a mobile cancer screening unit valued at ₹3.5 crore. The Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) has granted approval for the installation of a radiotherapy bunker within the cancer block. This bunker will house the LINAC machine, allowing for safe and effective radiotherapy treatments.
