One million women and girls lose access to support amid aid cuts: UN

The United Nations has reported that at least one million women and girls have lost access to essential support due to significant reductions in foreign aid since January 2025. The U.N. Women agency highlighted a sharp decline in funding for women's organizations during a period of increasing humanitarian needs. U.S. President Donald Trump's reduction in foreign aid, along with similar measures by other major donors, has contributed to this crisis. According to the report, 84% of women-led organizations in 52 affected countries experienced increased demand for their services, yet nearly 90% could no longer meet these needs. Additionally, two-fifths of these organizations anticipate closure within the next year. Many organizations are relying on unpaid staff and facing high levels of burnout to continue operations.

Bias read (Progressive): The article frames the issue as a consequence of reduced foreign aid, which is often associated with conservative or right-leaning policies, particularly under figures like Donald Trump. The emphasis on the negative impact of aid cuts and the portrayal of women's organizations as vital frontline aid
