One million more UK homeowners set to face higher mortgages

The Bank of England has revised its projections regarding UK mortgage rates, indicating that approximately one million additional homeowners will face increased mortgage payments due to the ongoing situation involving Iran. Previously, the Bank estimated that around four million homeowners would experience higher monthly repayments by the end of 2028, but this number has now risen to just over five million. The report highlights that while the financial burden on homeowners is expected to increase, the impact will not be as severe as in previous years. Those transitioning from fixed-rate mortgages are anticipated to see an average increase of £45 per month, although some homeowners with lower interest rates could face significantly higher increases. The majority of mortgage customers currently hold fixed-rate deals, which remain unchanged until the expiration of the term.
