Illia Kovtun, a Ukrainian gymnast who has won Olympic and world championship silver medals, has decided to represent Croatia. During the Paris 2024 Olympics, he earned a silver medal in the men's individual all-around competition. Kovtun is part of the Osijek Žito Gymnastics Club, where he found peace and top-tier training conditions after the war broke out in his home country. He obtained Croatian citizenship a year ago, which allowed him to transition into the national team. According to the regulations, athletes changing representation must go through a one-year quarantine period before they can compete internationally, which he completed earlier this month.
