The recent protest rally held in Kraljevo has sparked significant controversy, particularly due to the unexpected presence of Jelena Pavlović, a former member of Branimir Nestorović's political movement "Mi, snaga naroda." This incident has raised questions about the principles guiding student protests and the selection of speakers at such gatherings. The event took place during a time when the student movement was actively engaged in demonstrations against government policies, and Pavlović’s participation has now become a focal point of debate among activists and critics alike.

Pavlović had previously been a prominent figure within Nestorović's party, which managed to cross the electoral threshold in previous parliamentary elections. However, she was expelled from the party in late December 2024, reportedly after learning of her removal through media reports. Her sudden appearance at the protest in Kraljevo has led to confusion and criticism, as many were unprepared for someone with such a political background to take part in a demonstration traditionally associated with opposition to the ruling party.

Her speech at the event drew immediate attention, especially after social media users shared old footage of her enthusiastically applauding President Aleksandar Vučić. This contrast between her past actions and current involvement in the protest has fueled discussions about her motives and the implications of her presence. Some participants expressed frustration over how she came to be chosen as a speaker, questioning whether the organizers had considered her political history before inviting her to speak.

Reactions from various quarters have varied. Pavle Grbović, president of the Progressive Social Party (PSG), criticized Pavlović’s involvement, suggesting that her political journey—moving from Nestorović's party to becoming a vocal supporter of the ruling party—undermined her credibility as a representative of the student movement. He highlighted the irony of her being invited to speak at a protest where the principle of excluding former members of the ruling party was supposed to hold strong.

Meanwhile, Professor Čedomir Čupić, a retired faculty member who has supported student protests since their inception, emphasized the importance of transparency regarding such changes in leadership roles. He urged the student organizations to reflect carefully on the implications of allowing individuals with complex political backgrounds to participate in their movements.

Radomir Lazović, a leader of the Green Left Front (ZLF), also addressed the situation, stating that while his organization supports the student movement, they would not hesitate to point out any mistakes made by its members. He specifically mentioned Pavlović’s presence at the protest as an error, arguing that she should not have been allowed to speak without scrutiny. His comments underscored the internal tensions within the broader opposition landscape, where differing views on strategy and representation are increasingly evident.

As these debates continue, the future direction of the student movement remains uncertain. With figures like Pavlović entering the fray, the challenge lies in maintaining the integrity of the movement’s principles while addressing the complexities of political alignment and public perception. The coming days will likely see further discussions and potential shifts in how the movement approaches its leadership and messaging.
