The recent decision by Polish President Andrzej Duda regarding the White Eagle Order has sparked significant political discussion within Poland, particularly among members of the ruling party, the Left (PSL). Urszula Pasławska, a member of parliament and vice-president of PSL, addressed this issue during an interview on Sunday's edition of the program "Gość Wydarzeń." She emphasized that while the decision has been made, there is now no possibility of reversing it. According to Pasławska, the focus should shift towards future relations with Ukraine rather than dwelling on past actions.

Pasławska highlighted the importance of concentrating on the upcoming conference dedicated to rebuilding Ukraine, stressing that such efforts must involve Ukrainian representatives to be meaningful. She argued that without their participation, the conference would lack both purpose and creativity. Furthermore, she pointed out that the current situation reflects historical tensions between nations, including Poland, which have often led to conflicts with allies and neighbors. However, she believes these disputes are ultimately detrimental to Poland’s interests.

In response to comments from the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andriy Sybiha, who warned of potential retaliatory measures against actions deemed unfriendly by Kyiv, Pasławska urged Poland to avoid responding in kind. She stressed that as a more experienced country with a longer democratic tradition within the European Union, Poland should refrain from engaging in emotional games. Instead, she advocated for maintaining a state rationale that aligns with Polish national interests.

Pasławska also expressed concerns about ongoing tensions over historical figures and names assigned to Ukrainian administrative units, warning that unresolved conflicts could deepen the divide between Warsaw and Kyiv. She suggested that if both sides fail to address these issues constructively, Poland might suffer long-term consequences. In her view, weakening Ukraine, which is currently losing demographic and alliance potential, primarily benefits Russia.

Beyond the diplomatic implications, Pasławska also touched upon the controversy surrounding the Southern Hospital in Warsaw. While acknowledging the political dimension of the issue, she emphasized that it reveals broader systemic problems within healthcare. Pasławska pointed out that local governments frequently compete to attract medical professionals by offering better conditions, leading to a market-like scenario where doctors essentially negotiate their employment terms.
