Astronomers have conducted follow-up observations of a unique Type Ia supernova named SN 2023vjh, which exhibits characteristics similar to the 91bg-like subclass. Discovered by the Zwicky Transient Facility on October 17, 2023, the supernova occurred in the elliptical galaxy MCG+04-10-013, located approximately 271 million light-years away. The study, published on arXiv, reports that SN 2023vjh has a rise time of 11.6 days and displays typical 91bg-like features such as a cool photosphere and strong silicon absorption. Analysis of optical and near-infrared spectra reveals unusual properties including high reddening, low ejecta velocities, and the presence of calcium, iron, and cobalt absorption features. These findings contribute to understanding the diverse mechanisms behind Type Ia supernovae.
