Representatives from several Czech municipalities have written an open letter to Prime Minister Andrej Babiš (ANO), expressing concerns over the potential collapse of the Agency for Social Integration (ASZ) due to recent reorganization. The municipalities, which have long collaborated with ASZ on projects addressing poverty, social exclusion, and community integration, report a significant decline in support since the agency was merged with another unit under the Ministry of Regional Development (MMR) three months ago. The reorganization has led to the departure of experienced staff, including local consultants and experts specializing in revitalizing socially excluded areas, leaving the municipalities without crucial partners. Cities like Jablonec nad Nisou, Chomutov, Litvínov, and Žďár nad Sázavou highlighted their reliance on ASZ for funding and expertise in initiatives such as affordable housing, youth education, and debt counseling. They warn that the loss of these services could undermine efforts to address complex social issues.
