NSE Indices launches Nifty500 Ahimsa Index: How the 'ethical' benchmark works

NSE Indices Limited launched the Nifty500 Ahimsa Index, a new thematic index tracking companies from the Nifty 500 universe that adhere to 'non-violence' or 'Ahimsa' principles, particularly focusing on animal welfare. The index was developed in collaboration with the Ahimsagain Foundation using the Ahimsa Investment Movement (AIM) framework, which categorizes companies into Green, Orange, and Red based on ethical screening. Only Green-rated companies are included, while others are excluded. The index aims to provide investors with a sustainable and ethical benchmark for responsible investing, supporting ETFs and index funds. It will be reviewed semi-annually and has a base value of 1,000 as of April 1, 2016.
