New missile attacks reportedly hit the Amazon data center

Iran has launched new missile attacks targeting multiple sites across Gulf states, with reports indicating one strike hit an Amazon data centre in Bahrain. The attacks come amid escalating tensions in the region, as both sides accuse each other of escalating hostilities. According to local authorities, Iranian forces have targeted power plants and desalination facilities in Kuwait, while Jordanian and Bahraini military officials confirmed intercepting incoming projectiles without casualties. In Kuwait, government officials posted on social media platform X stating that “Iran continues its ruthless attacks on Kuwait, having struck a fourth day in a row at a thermal power plant and desalination facility, causing fires in multiple buildings.” These strikes have raised concerns over regional stability, particularly given the proximity of critical energy infrastructure to conflict zones. Jordanian military officials reported that their air defense system intercepted three Iranian rockets aimed at the kingdom, with no damage or injuries reported. Earlier in the week, Jordan’s armed forces had also downed five Iranian drones. These incidents highlight the increasing frequency and intensity of cross-border attacks, which have become a defining feature of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed that its forces attacked infrastructure belonging to US technology company Amazon in Bahrain. The attack was described as a retaliatory measure against a U.S. assault on the planned Iranian nuclear power plant site in Darhovin. This marks a significant escalation, as it directly targets a major global tech firm’s operations within the region. A tweet from the IRGC stated that several cruise missiles were used to destroy Amazon’s central data infrastructure in Bahrain. Meanwhile, German news agency dpa reported that Iran accused the United States of intentionally targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure during its attacks. In response, Bahraini authorities issued warnings via social media urging citizens to remain calm and seek shelter due to the heightened threat level. The country’s interior ministry noted that alarm systems were activated following the missile strikes, underscoring the immediate impact on public safety. The International Energy Agency (IEA) warned that the ongoing conflict could severely disrupt energy infrastructure in the region, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital chokepoint for oil shipments. Executive Director Fatih Birol emphasized that while crude oil markets continue to be supported by various factors mitigating supply disruptions, alternative routes such as the Bab el-Mandeb Strait face potential threats from Yemen-based groups.
