Minister Vlajčić: The situation is serious, we are strengthening the measures against ASK

In Croatia, the spread of African swine fever continues to escalate, according to Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries David Vlajčić. During an extraordinary press conference, he reported that there have been 89 outbreaks of the disease in the country, with 44 cases in the Osijek-Baranja County and 45 in the Virovitica-Podravina County. The number of new outbreaks has increased significantly, rising from 12 to 18 in just a few days. Vlajčić emphasized that the situation is very serious, noting that over 2,800 pigs have been euthanized in efforts to control the outbreak. He highlighted the substantial financial investment made by the state, including over 50 million euros, to prepare for the disease's resurgence. Vlajčić praised the actions of a veterinarian who prevented a potential disaster by stopping the movement of untraceable pigs from an infected area. He called for coordinated action among veterinarians, producers, hunters, and other stakeholders to protect domestic pig farming. The minister announced plans for a new meeting of the National Crisis Team for African Swine Fever, which will focus on measures to safeguard local production and reduce damage to the ag罗

Croatia is facing a serious outbreak of African swine fever, according to Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries David Vlajčić, who spoke at an emergency press conference. He reported 12 new outbreaks discovered yesterday, bringing the total to 89 in recent days. Vlajčić highlighted the intervention of a local veterinarian in Varazdin who prevented the illegal transportation of 300 pigs without identification tags from a known epicenter in Slavonia. The pigs had traveled across half of Croatia, posing a significant threat to domestic pig farming and the national economy. Vlajčić praised the veterinarian’s actions and called on all farmers and veterinarians to combat illegal activities threatening the industry. He noted that despite over €50 million invested in preparedness and biosecurity measures, the situation remains critical. The government plans to hold a meeting of the National Crisis Staff next week to implement further protective measures and conduct inspections of farms in several regions.

The owner of 300 euthanized pigs: They were healthy.

New outbreaks of African swine fever in Serbia, some in settlements along Croatia

The African swine fever virus has been detected in seven districts and 52 settlements across Serbia, with two new outbreaks reported in Bezdan near the border with Croatia and in the Southern Bačka district, specifically in Žabalj and Gospođinci. Serbian Minister of Agriculture Dragan Glamočić stated that while the spread of the virus was expected due to wild pig migrations, the situation remains concerning. The low water level of the Danube River is facilitating the movement of wild pigs, increasing the risk of disease transmission. Over 28,000 pigs have been culled or died since the outbreak began, and some farms have been temporarily banned from raising pigs. Extraordinary measures have been declared in several areas, including Ruma, Srijemska Mitrovica, Šapca, and Obrenovac. Additional municipalities are expected to implement similar measures soon to improve logistics and coordinate disinfection efforts. The virus is present throughout Serbia in wild pig populations, and organized hunting with strict monitoring of each eliminated animal is planned. David Vlajčić: Euthanasia justified, owner tried to remove pigs from the restricted zone

Why factuality (87): The article mirrors the primary source document in its description of the illegal transport and the euthanasia decision. It includes direct quotes from both the minister and the farmer, offering a clear account of the events. Minor discrepancies exist in phrasing but not in factual content.

Why objectivity (71): The tone slightly favors the minister's interpretation of the situation, especially when highlighting the farmer's alleged negligence. Since the beginning of 2026, over 27,000 pigs have been euthanized in Serbia due to African swine fever, according to Serbian Minister of Agriculture Dragan Glamočić. The outbreak has led to an extraordinary situation in areas such as Ruma, Obrenovac, and Sremska Mitrovice, with more municipalities expected to be affected soon. The minister noted that the majority of outbreaks are occurring at the borders of the Srijem and Mačva districts and within Belgrade, regions where many pig farmers operate. Owner of 300 euthanized pigs: "They were healthy, this was unnecessary". Vlajčić: "He tried to remove them"

The article discusses the eutanasia of 341 pigs transported illegally from a restricted area in Slavonia to the Varazdin region in Croatia. According to Minister David Vlajčić, this action was necessary due to illegal animal movement, which poses a risk of spreading African swine fever. The pig owner, Dražen Lozić, admits to some procedural errors but argues that the pigs were healthy and that euthanasia was unnecessary. He is willing to accept fines but criticizes the decision to kill the animals. Vlajčić highlights the severity of such violations and emphasizes the need for responsibility within the pig farming industry.

Bias read (Center): The article presents both perspectives—Minister Vlajčić's justification for the euthanasia based on legal and health concerns, and the farmer's argument that the pigs were healthy and the action was excessive. It does not favor one side over the other, providing quotes and arguments from both the官方和

David Vlajčić: "Euthanasia of pigs is justified". Owner: "I would have paid the fine, it was not necessary".

Flags: Pigs without ear tags are like cars with folded chassis

The article discusses a controversy involving illegal pig transportation in Croatia, which led to the euthanasia of pigs due to concerns over African swine fever. Minister Vlajčić criticized the actions of certain pig farmers, describing them as 'extremely large illegal activities' and 'unacceptable behavior.' The owner of the farm involved admitted to transporting pigs illegally but argued that euthanasia was unnecessary for healthy animals. Vlajčić highlighted that the farmer attempted to move pigs before his area was declared a restricted zone, and he pointed out that documentation for most pigs was forged using a veterinarian’s signature who wasn’t present. Only one pig had an ear tag, which Vlajčić compared to a car’s chassis—essential for proper identification. He emphasized the need for responsibility within the pig farming industry to prevent the spread of African swine fever.

Bias read (Center): The article presents both the minister's accusations against the pig farmer and the farmer's defense, providing quotes from both parties without overtly favoring one side. It does not exhibit clear biased language, one-sided sourcing, or omission of context.

Why factuality (85): Article aligns closely with the primary source document, reporting on the illegal transport of pigs and the subsequent euthanasia by veterinary authorities. Why objectivity (70): The article presents the minister's perspective prominently, using strong language like 'najboljem primjeru' (best example) to describe the illegal activities. While it does include the farmer's viewpoint, the overall tone leans towards supporting the government's actions.
