Martinis, an American physicist of Croatian descent and winner of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics, has been named an honorary member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts (Matice hrvatske). The honor was awarded for his significant contributions to promoting the Republic of Croatia globally. The decision was made by the Main Assembly of Matice hrvatske during a meeting held in Zagreb on May 9th, at the proposal of the Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. During the ceremony, Martinis received several publications published by Matice hrvatske in English, including books on Croatian history and science. Martinis expressed gratitude for being honored in Croatia, noting that the country represents his cultural heritage. He is currently visiting Croatia from July 4th, organized by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, in coordination with the Ministry of Science, Education, and Youth. During his visit, he participates in various activities, including lectures at the Ruđer Bošković Institute and the Faculty of Science and Mathematics at the University of Zagreb.
