Military forces in Nigeria have successfully rescued 43 individuals who had been kidnapped and neutralised 26 armed militants in a series of operations conducted across different regions of the country, according to reports from the Defence Media Operations. These actions took place within the last week, marking a significant counter-terrorism effort. The military operations spanned multiple areas, including the North-West, North-East, and the Niger Delta region. In the North-West, troops from Operation Fansan Yamma carried out several rescue missions. On August 22, six victims were freed along the Dandume-Sheme Road in Dandune Local Government Area of Katsina State, with approximately N800,000 reportedly taken from them by their captors. The following day, six more victims were rescued at Gadan Manya village in Anka LGA of Zamfara State, with three suffering minor injuries. Three children were also recovered in Kachia LGA of Kaduna State on August 24 and returned to their families. On August 25, 14 individuals were rescued at Magazu village in Tsafe LGA of Zamfara State, with one person sustaining gunshot injuries. Two female captives were later rescued at Hayin Babangida in Igabi LGA of Kaduna State. However, a male farmer who had been abducted during this incident was discovered deceased from gunshot wounds. In addition to these rescue efforts, the military disrupted several criminal activities. On August 23, troops intercepted disassembled canoes believed to belong to a terrorist leader along the Zamfara-Kebbi axis and apprehended three suspected gunrunners along the Kaura Namoda-Shinkafi Road. An assault rifle hidden inside a bag of millet, intended for a terrorist figure in Zamfara State, was seized. That same day, a suspected terrorist leader, Mallam Sanusi Mai Glass, and his associate were arrested in Dutsinma LGA of Katsina State, alongside the recovery of a vehicle. Two additional suspected terrorists were detained in Maradun LGA of Zamfara State on August 25, with firearms, communication devices, and cash confiscated. Incriminating images and videos were also retrieved from a suspect's mobile device. Operations in the North-East saw troops from Operation Hadin Kai intercept eight abducted individuals, consisting of three women and five children, near Ngoshe in Gwoza LGA of Borno State on August 22. Three minors who had escaped from terrorist hideouts close to Amuda Bridge in Gwoza were also rescued on the same day. From August 23 to 27, suspected terrorist logistics providers, spies, and fighters were arrested in Biu, Guzamala, and Damboa LGAs of Borno State, as well as Michika LGA of Adamawa State. On August 27, troops repelled an attempt at terrorist infiltration along the Gulumba Gana axis in Dikwa LGA of Borno State, resulting in the neutralisation of one militant while two others fled with gunshot injuries. During a clearance mission at Kopre Mountain in Hong LGA of Adamawa State between August 26 and 27, troops eliminated 21 terrorists and dismantled their base. This operation led to the seizure of six AK-47 rifles, 23 magazines, and 586 rounds of ammunition. The military also documented numerous surrenders and arrests of suspected terrorists and their accomplices. Between August 22 and 25, a terrorist leader, along with several fighters and their family members, surrendered to troops at Kumburi, Bula Daloye, and New Abaram Resettlement Village in Bama LGA of Borno State. The surrendering individuals attributed their decision to ongoing military pressure and internal conflicts among rival terrorist groups. On August 25, troops, working in conjunction with the Department of State Services (DSS), arrested a suspected kidnapper at Madara Village in Katagum LGA of Bauchi State. Two suspected logistics suppliers were also apprehended.
