NIA Spotlights Thailand's Wellness Boom as Global Consumers Spend Boundlessly on Longevity

Thailand’s wellness industry is experiencing unprecedented growth, positioning itself as a global leader in the health and longevity sector. With the National Innovation Agency (NIA) spotlighting the country’s wellness boom, the government is actively transforming Thailand into a premier destination for health and wellness. As of 2026, the global wellness economy has surpassed USD 6.8 trillion, marking a 7.9% increase from the prior year, and is projected to reach USD 9.8 trillion by 2029. Amid this expansion, Thailand stands out, ranking eighth in the Numbeo Health Care Index 2026, becoming the only Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member to enter the Top 10. The country’s wellness market grew by 28.4% in 2023, reaching over USD 40 billion, while its “Wellness Tourism” segment surged by 36.4%. This rapid ascent is driven by both domestic and international demand for quality healthcare and holistic wellness solutions. Thailand’s appeal lies in its combination of world-class medical facilities, affordable treatment options, and a rich heritage of traditional healing practices. Institutions such as BDMS Wellness Clinic and Chiva-Som have become synonymous with excellence in wellness care, offering a blend of modern medicine and time-honored Thai therapies. These organizations are pivotal in shaping Thailand’s identity as a global wellness hub, leveraging the country’s unique cultural and natural resources to create high-value health experiences. At the heart of this transformation is Prof. Dr. Yodchanan Wongsawat, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI). He has outlined a strategic vision to elevate Thailand’s wellness industry beyond conventional service models. By integrating deep technology, such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and health tech, into wellness care, Thailand aims to establish itself as a leader in evidence-based, innovative health solutions.
