New mental health funding will prioritise LGBTQ+ and young people

The Irish government has announced additional mental health funding aimed at expanding services for LGBTQ+ individuals and young people. This includes an extra 9,000 counselling appointments, bringing total funding to €3 million for Budget 2026, on top of previous allocations. The initiative involves a partnership between the Health Service Executive (HSE) and Community Therapy Ireland (CTI) to improve access to early intervention mental health supports. The announcement follows the success of the Men’s Free Counselling programme, which has reached over 5,200 men since its launch. The new 'Men Connect' Programme will expand mental health services through Family Resource Centres in Monaghan, Sligo, and Waterford, focusing on community-based outreach and support.
