NGOs call on the government to halt the C0 Canal project

The article reports that non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have called on the Slovenian government to immediately halt the C0 canal project, arguing that it threatens critical water infrastructure for 400,000 people. The NGOs claim that the government has created a false impression in the public that completing the canal is essential for maintaining European funding. They assert that the true threat to European funds lies in incomplete urban clusters and lack of household connections in southern Ljubljana. Even if the canal is completed, funds could still be lost due to unmet conditions. The NGOs argue that European funds cannot and should not be used as a crutch for an unlawful and unprofessional project. They warn of unacceptable risks to drinking water, especially during extreme droughts. They also point out that the canal was not built according to earthquake-resistant regulations and that an environmental impact assessment required by parliament has not been conducted. The NGOs state that they have experts who can resolve the project without the canal and can assist in negotiations with the European Commission to retain funds. They accuse the municipal authorities of defra

NGOs urge government to halt C0 Canal project because of drinking water threat

Bias read (Progressive): The article frames the issue as a threat to public water supply and criticizes the local government for prioritizing financial interests over environmental protection. It emphasizes the potential loss of European funds due to non-compliance with regulations and highlights the lack of transparency by
