AustriaAn new memorial site is being developed at the Mauer clinic area in Austria to honor victims of Nazi-era medical atrocities. The memorial, designed by artist Azra Akšamija, will commemorate 2,848 patients who were killed at the Mauer-Öhling facility or other institutions during World War II. It includes four walls made from materials representing the four involved death camps: brick for Mauer, limestone for Gugging, slate for Meseritz-Obrawalde, and split concrete for Hartheim. Each victim will be individually named on stainless steel plaques. The memorial is set to open on October 2nd. Additionally, the region reports a positive visitor count for the exhibition on mental health history, with over 1,000 bus reservations reported in July.
