New British Prime Minister Andy This is Andy Burnham's cabinet

Andy Burnham was officially sworn in as the new British prime minister on Monday, following his appointment by King Charles III to lead the formation of the government. The newly assembled cabinet marks a notable shift compared to the previous administration under Keir Starmer, with several key changes in personnel and roles. Burnham immediately set to work, calling the first session of his cabinet just days after his swearing-in. His decision to appoint more women than men to the cabinet has drawn attention, with 12 female ministers and 11 male members among the 23 officials, including himself. This represents a significant step toward gender balance within the executive branch. One of the most unexpected appointments was John Healey, who had previously resigned from the cabinet in June due to disagreements over defense spending levels under Starmer. Now serving as Chancellor of the Exchequer, Healey described the role as “the greatest honor” and expressed confidence in building a new economic foundation and advancing the interests of working people. Similarly, Wes Streeting, the former health minister, was appointed as defense secretary. Although he had briefly been considered a rival for the party leadership, he withdrew from contention after Burnham’s election to parliament. Despite this change, expectations remain low for major shifts in defense and foreign policy under the new government. Ed Miliband, the former energy minister and former leader of the Labour Party, returns to the cabinet as foreign secretary. His brother, David Miliband, previously held the same position during Gordon Brown’s tenure. Miliband's appointment sees Yvette Cooper, the former head of the Foreign Office, move to the health ministry, while Shabana Mahmood continues as home secretary. Angela Rayner, a prominent figure within the left wing of the party, has returned as housing minister, a role she previously held under Starmer until she stepped down amid allegations of tax evasion. She has since been cleared of these charges. Several close allies of Starmer, including former deputy prime minister and justice minister David Lammy and former finance minister Rachel Reeves, will play less prominent roles in the new government. The transition reflects broader internal dynamics within the Labour Party, with Burnham positioning himself as a unifying force after a period of political tension. As the new government begins its work, the focus will likely remain on domestic issues, particularly economic recovery and social welfare, with fewer immediate signs of radical policy changes.
