New scam: Expensive graphics cards arrive without chip and memory

A new scam involving high-end graphics cards has been reported, where buyers receive cards that appear legitimate but lack essential components such as the GPU chip and memory. This fraud has previously been documented mainly in the United States, where victims purchased RTX 5090 and other expensive models through private sales platforms or Chinese online marketplaces. Recently, a similar case was reported in Germany, where a buyer purchased a used RTX 5090 for €1800. Upon inspection by a hardware expert, it was discovered that the card had been tampered with, its critical components were missing, leaving only the circuit board. The scammer likely removed these parts and sold them separately or as replacement parts.
