Naver Q2 net income up 41.6% as AI boosts core biz

Naver Corp., South Korea's largest online portal operator, reported a significant increase in its second-quarter net profit, driven by growth in its core businesses supported by artificial intelligence. Net profit for the April-June period reached 704.3 billion won, a 41.6% increase compared to the same period last year. While operating profit decreased slightly by 0.2%, revenue increased by 16.2% to 3.38 trillion won. This growth was attributed to increased sales in areas like commerce and advertising, as well as expansion in global consumer-to-consumer platforms such as Poshmark and Wallapop. Naver also mentioned plans to generate new revenue from an AI factory being developed in partnership with US chipmaker Nvidia, expected to contribute in the first half of next year.
