The sequel to "Michael" will deal with the allegations of abuse

A new installment of the biographical film Michael will explore allegations of child sexual abuse, according to actor JAAFAR Jackson, who plays the late pop icon in the movie. The sequel will focus on the difficult period in Michael Jackson’s life involving accusations against him, which were not covered in the first film. The initial film, produced by Lionsgate, chronicled Jackson's rise from childhood with The Jackson 5 to his solo career, ending in 1987 before the first public allegations emerged. The second film is already in production, and JAAFAR has confirmed that it will tackle sensitive themes. His comments also serve as the clearest indication of the perspective from which the story of the allegations will be told. The first film was a major success, depicting Jackson’s journey from his early years to becoming a global superstar, concluding in 1987, long before the initial legal charges surfaced. Jackson’s family has long been frustrated that his voice was not heard in discussions surrounding these allegations. JAAFAR, son of Michael’s older brother Jermaine, stated that the family believes it is crucial for Jackson’s later years to be represented accurately. He emphasized the importance of giving the audience a chance to hear from the man himself rather than relying solely on accounts from others. The timeline of the allegations shows that Jackson faced accusations during his lifetime, which he consistently denied. The first formal accusation came in 1993, involving a 13-year-old boy. A civil case ended in 1994 with a settlement, without admission of guilt, and a criminal investigation did not result in charges being filed. A decade later, new allegations arose following additional claims. The trial received widespread media attention, and in 2005, Jackson was acquitted on all counts. New allegations emerged after his death, with statements from Wade Robison and James Safechuck featured in the documentary Leaving Neverland in 2019. These claims were strongly rejected by Jackson’s heirs. The approach taken by the first part of the film was carefully considered. The key question was how to position the film regarding this aspect of Jackson’s life. The first film completely avoided the topic because its narrative concluded years before the start of the legal proceedings. Director Antoine Fuqua focused on Jackson’s childhood, his rise with The Jackson 5, and his transformation into a solo superstar, culminating in the era of his album Bad. Fuqua had previously revealed that material related to the allegations was originally part of the script but was removed in favor of splitting Jackson’s story into two parts. JAAFAR explained that it was important to first present who Jackson was before the controversies that marked his later years, so that the audience could understand the complete story. “This first film focuses on Michael’s roots,” he said. “That gives you an idea of who he was before his success and before he became the icon everyone knows. First, you get to know what kind of person he was.”
