The most expensive book ever written by a woman The first edition of "Hurricane Heights" sold at auction at Christie's for 1.4 million euros (VIDEO)

The first edition of Emily Brontë’s novel 'Wuthering Heights,' published in 1847 alongside her sister Anne Brontë's 'Agnes Grey,' was sold at Christie's auction in London for £1,206,500 (approximately €1.4 million). This sale set a record for the most expensive printed book by a female author and for the most expensive 19th-century literary work at auction. The book is one of the best-preserved copies in private ownership, retaining its original cloth binding from 1847 and all its textual and typographical features. It is exceptionally rare, with only five known copies in original bindings still existing today. The copy sold was part of a historic private library in England since publication. The book recently gained renewed public attention due to a 2026 film adaptation starring Margot Robbie as the lead role.
