Furthermore, the women were reported to the immigration authority, which could lead to deportation due to suspicions of false employment. Legal representatives of the victims argue that the authorities prioritized administrative procedures over immediate support. Oskar Gysler, attorney for the mother, stated that there is insufficient evidence to suggest the employment relationship was fraudulent. Similarly, Tamara de Caro, the lawyer representing the daughter, criticized the lack of cooperation between the social services and immigration departments. She emphasized that the victims required urgent help rather than being subjected to bureaucratic scrutiny. De Caro pointed out that the migration office had the option to issue hardship permits, while the social welfare department could have provided standard assistance. “The authorities chose the more restrictive options,” she noted, suggesting this reflects broader systemic attitudes toward foreign residents in Switzerland. Gysler added that the migration office appears to hold a general distrust of foreigners, further complicating the victims’ access to necessary support.
