106 doses of blood were collected in Zameta, donated by handball players, water polo players, karate players

At a blood donation drive held in Zamet, Croatia, over 100 units of blood were collected, thanks to the contributions of handball players, water polo athletes, and karate practitioners. Organized by the City Association of the Red Cross in Rijeka and the Active Donors Blood Donation Group Zamet, the event saw 137 donors participate, with 31 individuals unable to donate due to health reasons. Despite this, their intention to contribute was noted. The drive marked a special occasion with the addition of fifteen new donors. The event took place within the framework of the Primorsko-Goranska County project titled "Primorsko-Goranska County - European Capital of Sport 2026." Whole teams arrived at Zamet, including handball players from MRK Zamet led by coach Slaven Radić and director Vedran Babić, water polo players from VK Primorja Erste Bank under coach Igor Hinić, and karate fighters from the Champion Karate Club. A notable figure was 16-year-old Bartol Smoje, a world champion in men's under-16 water polo. Although he could not yet donate blood due to his age, he attended to support his teammates from Primorja and all blood donors, promising to return as a donor in two years. Women made up a significant portion of the donors, with 34 women contributing to the effort. Regular participants included employees of Autotrol, members of the Rescue Unit of the Civil Protection of Rijeka, and staff from the Educational Institute for Public Health PGŽ. Nutritional advisor Gordana Kenđel Jovanović from these institutions joined the event, offering body composition analysis and nutritional advice to the donors. Regular female donors also included members of the "Heart for Her" association, who came alongside women undergoing cancer treatment and received support from the group. Support for the event was extended by several local figures, including Sonja Šišić, head of culture and sport for PGŽ, and Dorotea Pešić Bukovac, president of the Rijeka Sports Association. To ensure no one left empty-handed, partners and sponsors prepared appropriate gifts. The Red Cross of Rijeka offered personalized gifts, while the Municipal Company for Cleanliness delighted the female donors with flower saplings. Primorsko-Goranska County secured gifts related to the PGŽ - European Region of Sport 2026 project, and HMNK Rijeka gifted tickets to an upcoming match against MNK Hajduk. Among the most frequent donors were Jasmin Šogolj with 95 donations, Sandro Abram with 83, Igor Pešić with 77, Midhad Veljačić with 76, and Marijan Mihajić with 70 donations. These individuals exemplify long-term commitment to blood donation. The event highlighted the continued tradition of high participation among women, reinforcing the importance of each unit of blood collected for saving lives and daily medical treatments. The organizers expressed gratitude towards volunteers from the Red Cross, the transfusion team from KBC Rijeka, and the company Rijeka Sport for their support.
