A tree fell at the entrance to the beach of Kirikvenica, that's the second case this summer

A tree fell near the entrance to the Crikvenica city beach on Monday around 7 p.m., marking the second such incident this summer. According to officials from the municipal company Eko-Murvica, no one was injured in the accident. The incident occurred at the main access point to the city’s public beach, raising concerns among residents and visitors. Emergency services and staff from Eko-Murvice responded immediately to the scene, clearing the area and ensuring pedestrian passage. They confirmed that the situation was under control and that no injuries were reported. The local authorities emphasized their commitment to maintaining safety for both residents and tourists. The fallen tree was identified as part of a broader pattern of incidents involving trees in the area. A similar occurrence had taken place earlier in the month, though with more severe consequences. At that time, eight individuals, both Croatian and Czech nationals, including children, were lightly injured after a tree fell onto the Balustrada section of the beach. This led to a swift response from local authorities, who initiated a forensic examination of the tree and launched a preventive expert inspection of 100 trees throughout the town. Eko-Murvice officials stated that the process began right after the first incident, with the goal of identifying potential risks and taking timely action. So far, approximately 50 trees have been inspected and analyzed, with ongoing efforts to complete the remaining assessments. The results of these inspections will guide further decisions regarding necessary interventions, such as pruning, sanitation, or removal of hazardous trees. City mayor Ivona Matošić Gašparović confirmed that the municipality acted promptly following the initial incident, ordering detailed forensic analysis and initiating the comprehensive tree evaluation. She stressed that the decision-making process was based on professional assessments rather than reactive measures. “It is crucial to emphasize that this procedure was initiated immediately after the first incident, with the aim of identifying potential risks and taking timely action,” she explained. The mayor added that once all data is collected and expert recommendations are received, appropriate actions will be taken without delay. Any tree deemed a risk will be addressed accordingly. She acknowledged the concern expressed by citizens and assured them that the safety of residents, especially children, and visitors remains a top priority. The ongoing inspections are part of a larger effort to ensure the continued safety of the public spaces in Crikvenica. With the summer season in full swing, the local government continues to monitor the situation closely and is prepared to take further steps if needed.
