Moroccan authorities have arrested 10 individuals, including a minor, in connection with thwarted attack plots linked to the Islamic State (IS) affiliate in the Sahel region. The arrests were made across multiple cities, including Agadir, Casablanca, and others, as part of coordinated counterterrorism operations. According to the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations, the suspects had pledged allegiance to IS and received direct instructions from the group's Sahel branch to conduct attacks in Morocco. Authorities described the plots as 'extremely dangerous' and at an 'advanced stage of preparation.' During searches, police recovered bladed weapons, military-style clothing, and documents outlining methods for creating explosive devices. Additionally, a vehicle with a modified fuel tank designed for a suicide bombing or car-ramming attack was found in Inezgane, near Agadir. The last known jihadist attack in Morocco occurred in 2023, when three IS-affiliated individuals killed a police officer in Casablanca.
