CroatiaThe peak of this year's firefighting season has been more demanding than in previous years, according to the commander of the 855th Firefighting Squadron, Colonel Milan Došen. The squadron, part of the Croatian Defence Ministry's specialized firefighting forces, has been actively involved in extinguishing fires across several regions of Croatia, including Šibenik-Knin, Split-Dalmatia, Dubrovnik-Neretva, Zagreb, and Lika-Senj. Between June 15 and July 21, pilots participated in putting out 12 fires in Šibenik-Knin, 11 in Split-Dalmatia, seven in Dubrovnik-Neretva, two in Zagreb, and one in Lika-Senj. During July alone, they tackled fires in Komiza on Vis, Ivan Dolac on Hvar, Blato on Korčula, Vinisć in Trogir, Grebaštica near Vodice, Vrpolj in Šibenik-Knin, and Metković. They also worked on islands such as Dugi Otok and Mljet. In addition to firefighting operations, the aerial units conducted 20 fire reconnaissance missions along the Croatian coast to identify potential risks early.
